2019/2020 Season

DIE PERLEN DER CLEOPATRA

September 12, 2019 - December 14, 2019

Komische Oper Berlin

In the guise of light-hearted and frivolous entertainment, with music somewhere between cabaret, jazz, late romanticism and a dose of bliss courtesy of the Viennese waltz, The Pearls of Cleopatra is a witty satire on middle-class conservatism and a farsighted commentary on the then already impending political ills of the 1920s.

OPERNDOLMUS

November 21, 2019 -June 19, 2020

Komische Oper Berlin

To the Komische Oper Berlin, “open to the city” doesn’t just mean opening wide the gates to the opera house, its music, and its truly special artform for each and every person regardless of their cultural, social or financial background – it also means crossing our own threshold and going out into the city, through projects such as the “Operndolmus.”

DSCHAINAH DAS MÄDCHEN AUS DEM TANZHAUS

December 22, 2019 - March 22, 2020

Komische Oper Berlin

A wild mix of Puccini, Puszta and jazz, Abraham’s musical adventure concerns a French naval officer’s love affair with a dschainah, the Vietnamese equivalent of a Japanese Geisha. Almost 84 years to the day after its world premiere in Vienna, the work will now experience its belated German premiere – a very special find in the series of excavations and rediscoveries at the Komische Oper Berlin.
